Kramer Picks Up Third Signee
May 12, 2015
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer announced another addition to the indoor and sand volleyball rosters on Tuesday with the signing of Pepperdine transfer and junior Jillian Bergeson for the 2015-16 seasons.
Bergeson, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter from Friendswood, Texas, signed a grant-in-aid and will be able to compete for the Horned Frogs immediately with two years of eligibility remaining.
"I have watched Jillian develop a lot through the years of club and USA Volleyball," Kramer said. "She will fit very well within the culture of our Horned Frog family and I expect her to make an immediate impact for us as a six-rotation outside hitter.
"She is an accomplished player both on the hard court and in the sand, which makes her an outstanding fit for TCU. She wants to be in a situation where she can do both well. Erik (Peterson) and I will work together so that we can help our athletes who want to be successful in both indoor and sand have the best collegiate career possible in both sports. We are very excited about Jillian's future here with us and can't wait to get in the gym with her."
A two-year letterwinner at Pepperdine, Bergeson started 49 matches in her two seasons, including every match in 2014. Bergeson led the Waves with 314 kills and 368.5 points and was second of the team with 35 service aces and 2.83 kills per set in her sophomore season. In her career at Pepperdine, Bergeson totaled 19 double-digit kill matches and 38 double-digit dig matches, while also totaling 15 double-doubles.
In her freshman season, Bergeson started 15 matches at the libero position and led the team with 313 digs. Bergeson totaled a double-double in her first collegiate start and finished the season with 3.56 digs per set which ranked ninth in the program's single season record book. Following her debut campaign, Bergeson was named to the West Coast Conference All-Freshman team.
"TCU gives me the best chance to succeed athletically, academically, and spiritually," Bergeson said. "I am excited to compete in the competitive Big 12 Conference and be part of the great athletic program that Coach Kramer is building."
A graduate of Friendswood High School, Bergeson was a four-year letterwinner in both volleyball and basketball. Bergeson racked up many accomplishments in her high school career including being named an AVCA Under Armour Second Team All-American and a Mizuno/Volleyball Magazine Third Team All-American.
Bergeson led her team to the semi-finals of the Texas Class 4A State Championship in her senior season and was the two-time District 24-4A MVP and a four-time first team selection. A two-time first-team all-state honoree by the Texas Girls Coaches Association and the Texas Sports Writers Association, Bergeson also earned All-Galveston Country Player of the Year twice.
