Volleyball Adds Mikals
June 9, 2014
FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU volleyball head coach Prentice Lewis announced the signing of Sarita Mikals of Colleyville, Texas to the 2014 incoming class. Mikals transfers to TCU after one season at Houston and will be a sophomore in the fall.
“We are excited Sarita is going to be a Horned Frog,” coach Lewis said. “She averaged over three kills and two digs per game at the Division I level in only her freshman season. Her ability to tool the block and make shots will better our entire team’s game.”
Mikals was Houston’s top performer in 2013, appearing in all 33 matches and 122 sets, while finishing first on the team with 393 total kills and 312 digs. Mikals recorded 12 double-doubles and recorded double figure kills in all but eight matches. The leading freshman hitter in the American Athletic Conference, Mikals averaged 3.22 kills per set, was named the American Freshman of the Week three times and was placed on the weekly Honor Roll once.
Mikals, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter, was named second team all-conference in her freshman campaign and finished second on the team in digs (312), digs per set (2.56) and service aces (27).
As a prep, Mikals was a two-year letterwinner for Colleyville Heritage High School and helped the team to a 46-2 record during her senior season. Mikals also led the team to a District Championship title and second place finish in the Regional Quarterfinals. For her efforts, Mikals was named 2012 District Hitter of the Year, as well as First Team All-District honors. In her junior season, Mikals helped the team to a 33-2 record and a District Championship, as well as earning Second Team All-District honors in 2011.
