Scheevel Signs with TCU

June 9, 2016

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer made one final addition to the 2016-17 roster on Thursday with the signing of transfer Kayla Scheevel.

Scheevel, a 5-foot-8 outside hitter and defensive specialist, transfers from Irvine Valley College and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

“Kayla is the last piece of the puzzle for our 2016-17 roster,” Kramer said. “She will compete for the libero position immediately as she has a very high volleyball IQ and an exceptional skill set. Kayla is a bright young woman and a giver. Her compassionate demeanor will allow her to become a great nurse which is the degree plan she will pursue, making TCU a perfect fit.”

Scheevel played in 48 total matches, 153 sets during her two years as a Laser. Scheevel was part of Irvine Valley's first-ever CCCAA State Championship team in the fall of 2014, when the Lasers finished with a record of 27-0 and also won its second straight Orange Empire Conference title. In her first season, she played in 26 matches and finished with 171 digs as the team's primary libero, while also finishing fifth on the team in total digs and fifth in digs per set at 2.14. In her second season, Scheevel totaled 227 kills and 255 digs with 16 of the matches finishing with double-digit digs.

Scheevel was also part of successful IVC women's beach volleyball program the past two springs and helped Irvine Valley win the inaugural CCCAA State Championship. Scheevel was named second team all-Orange Empire Conference for beach.

Before IVC, Scheevel helped Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine win a league title, finish as the runner-up in CIF and make the second round of the state playoffs during her senior year. She was named first team all-league, all-CIF, all-county honorable mention and her team's MVP as well during her senior campaign. Scheevel led the Saints in kills her senior year and was named second team all-league as both a sophomore and a junior.
