Wright Tabbed to Coach WJNTT

July 12, 2016

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU volleyball assistant coach Brian Wright has been selected to be a part of the U.S. Women’s Junior National Training Team coaching staff that will train the 19-player roster for the NORCECA Women’s U20 Continental Championship from July 24-Aug. 1.

Wright will be an assistant coach on the WJNTT coaching staff, with 2016 marking the second straight summer that he has coached a USA Volleyball team. Last summer, Wright was the head coach of the USAV Girls’ Select A1 National Training Team Program.

“It is an absolute honor to represent the United States with our Women's Junior National Team,” Wright said. “I am extremely excited to coach such an elite group of the best under 20 players in our country. I can't wait to be a part of creating a fun and competitive environment to train at the highest level and put ourselves in a position to compete for gold at the High Performance Championships and the NORCECA World Championships Qualifier.”

Laurie Corbelli, head coach at Texas A&M, has been selected to serve as the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team head coach. Jesse Tupac, an assistant coach at University of Denver, will serve as technical coordinator and a second assistant coach will be added to the coaching staff in the near future.

The WJNTT is set to begin training the week of July 11 through July 24 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The final 12-player roster for the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team will be selected on July 19. The final 12 players will compete in the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships held July 19-23 in Ft. Lauderdale. The team will then compete in the NORCECA Women’s U20 Continental Championship from July 24 to Aug. 1 at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale.

“I'm excited for Brian to have the opportunity to represent the United States through USA Volleyball,” TCU Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer said. “He will enjoy working with the staff they have assembled and learn so much from the experience.”

Following his time with USAV, Wright will return to Fort Worth to begin his second season with the Horned Frogs. TCU will open the season with the annual Purple & White Scrimmage on Aug. 20, before officially starting the season with NC State, Arkansas State and Boise State at home from Aug. 26-28 at the Rickel.
