July 15, 2015

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU assistant indoor volleyball coach Brian Wright has been tabbed to lead the USAV Girls’ Select A1 National Training Team Program that will take place in Des Moines, Iowa from July 16-26.

Wright will be the head coach of the program that also includes nine other coaches from around the country including assistant coaches from Oregon, Utah and James Madison University. The program will include the top 55 volleyball players in the country born in 2000 and 2001 competing in the highest level of programming available to athletes in the Select age group

“I am extremely honored to represent USA and coach the Select A1 National Team at this year's High Performance Championships,” Wright said. “This is a phenomenal opportunity for the best 55 players born in 2000 and 2001 to compete in an international tournament. We will train for five days and then compete for five days and I am really looking forward to the excitement and fun of working with these highly talented athletes and excellent coaching staff.”

Participating athletes will train as a group for five days before splitting into ability-tiered teams of 11 for the USA High Performance Championships immediately following training. Training features an intense international skill and system focus, including hands-on opponent scouting training.

The USA HP Championships are an international tournament hosted by USA Volleyball annually and features international teams from a myriad of countries plus Region High Performance teams from all over the United States. In the last two years, teams have come from Canada, Chile, China, Dominican Republic, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, and Puerto Rico.

Following his time with USAV, Wright will return to Fort Worth to begin his first season with the Horned Frogs under the helm of Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer. TCU will open the season with the annual Purple & White Scrimmage on Aug. 22, before officially starting the season with Abilene Christian, Texas State and UTEP at home on Aug. 28-29 at the University Recreation Center.
