TCU Opens Season with Purple & White Scrimmage

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's volleyball team is set to open its 2014 season with the Purple & White Scrimmage on Saturday, August 16 inside the TCU University Recreation Center. Admission is free, with first serve slated for 1 p.m.
The Horned Frogs return 14 letterwinners and five of the six starters plus the libero from last year's squad. Three newcomers, including a transfer, join a team that is coming off a 2013 season where the team posted the ninth winning season under coach Prentice Lewis.
The Frogs return 80 percent of their offense from a year ago and will look towards seniors Stephanie Holland and Mattie Burleson to lead the team on offense and defense. Holland was named AVCA All-Southwest Region Honorable Mention after playing in all 31 matches and finishing third on the team in kills with 252. Burleson has led the team in blocking for two straight seasons and sits in the career section of the record book in blocks per set at No. 4 with 1.02.
TCU will also host an Alumni Match on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 2 p.m., and will open its regular season on Friday, Aug. 29 against defending national champion and preseason No. 1 Penn State at 6:30 p.m., CT, at the Penn State Classic in State College, Pa.
Big 12 league play will begin on the road at Texas Tech on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. The team will then return home to open conference action with Iowa State on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.
