VB Preview: Cowtown Classic

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team will kick-off the 2017 season at home for the third straight season by hosting UTSA and Coastal Carolina in the Cowtown Classic from Aug. 25-26 at The Rickel inside the University Recreation Center.

The Horned Frogs (0-0) will start their third season under the helm of Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer on Friday at 6 p.m., against the Roadrunners (0-0) before ending the tournament on Saturday at 5 p.m., against the Chanticleers (0-0). The weekend will also feature one more match as TCU welcomes Rice on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 2 p.m.

Fans unable to attend the matches at the Rec Center can see live stat updates through GoFrogs.com, while a live video and audio feed will be available through FrogVision with a CBS Sports All-Access subscription.

Clear Bag Policy
Only the following items will be permitted upon entrance into TCU athletics facilities:
-Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and not exceeding 14 inches by 14 inches
-One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
-One unopened bottle of water
-Small clutch bags with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the venue with one of the clear plastic bags
-The Small clutch bags must be approximately the size of a hand 
-Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at stadium/arena gates
-Backpacks, diaper bags and other similar bags will not be allowed

Tickets for the action this weekend will be available for purchase at the TCU Ticket Office located inside the Rec Center. Every single match will be ticketed with adult tickets priced at $10 and youth tickets available for $5. For more ticket information, please call the ticket office at 817-257-FROG.

TCU Quick Hits
-The 2017 season marks the 22nd season in the history of the TCU Volleyball program
-The Horned Frogs will be opening the season at home for the third straight year and are 12-9 in season openers in program history
-TCU returns seven letterwinners and four starters from a season ago and also welcomes seven newcomers including one transfer
-Junior Anna Walsh was named Preseason All-Big 12 after pounding down 206 kills a year ago to go along with 72 total blocks
-Another key offensive returner is junior Ashleigh Martin who contributed 2.18 kills per set a season ago along with nine oduble-digit kill matches
-The Frogs have great offensive depth which means a 6-2 will be in play again with Kaylee Smith and Lamprini Konstantinidou guiding the offense
-Added to the mix is Arizona State transfer Lexi MacLean who will see action in all six rotations
-Seeing the court for the first time this season will be four freshmen who redshirted last fall - Abigail Buckingham, Makena Martin, Calli Novak and Ashley Waggle
-TCU brought in a stud of a freshmen class again which was ranked for the second straight year by Prepvolleyball.com by coming in at No. 24
-The newest additions to the roster will be relied on heavily as outside hitter Allye Beth Deaton and middle blocker Sarah Swanson could be key to the offense while Berklie Baker and Dani Dennison will help anchor the defense

Recap: Texas A&M Exhibition
-The TCU volleyball team looked sharp in its lone preseason exhibition match as the Horned Frogs won four of the five sets played against Texas A&M
-TCU took the opening four sets 25-15, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22, before dropping the final set to the Aggies, 15-10.
-In a match that saw 16 of the 17 players take the court, TCU controlled the pace from the get-go as they shut it down at the net with 10.0 total team blocks as well as 61 kills to take the first four sets played.
-Abigail Buckingham saw the court for the first time in her career as the redshirt freshman led the team with 12 kills and only three errors on 22 swings for a .409 hitting clip.
-Transfer Lexi MacLean led the team on both offense and defense as she scored a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs.
-Freshman Dani Dennison donned the libero jersey for four of the five sets and was good for 25 digs and three assists.
-At the net, a pair of freshmen led the way as Allye Beth Deaton and Sarah Swanson were each good for five total blocks.
