FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team is slated to open its 2013 season on the road at the Georgia Bulldog Invitational on Aug. 30-31 in Athens, Ga., at the Ramsey Center.

The Horned Frogs are slated to begin their season with Furman at 3 p.m., on Friday, before concluding the tournament with host Georgia and Lipscomb on Saturday at 11:30 a.m., and 4:30 p.m., respectively.

TCU is coming off a 2012 campaign that saw the team post its eighth winning season under coach Prentice Lewis. This is the 12th season with Lewis at the helm of the program and the 18th season in TCU volleyball history. Under Lewis, TCU is 7-4 in season openers, including a string of six straight victories from 2006-11.

The Frogs return nine letterwinners from the 2012 squad, including two-time All-Big 12 Preseason team selection and 2012 All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Yvonne Igodan.

 

BREAKING DOWN THE OPPONENT - FURMAN

-The Paladins were picked to finish third in their conference after finishing 2012 with a 24-10 (10-6, SoCon) record.

-Furman returns reigning SoCon Freshman of the Year Jo Wilks, who was a preseason all-conference selection along with Christina Dorismond.

-Wilks finished 2012 ranked fourth all-time in program history with 1,529 assists and also ranked fourth in the NCAA with 12.23 assists per set.

-Dorismond is one of only two seniors and returns as the team leader in hitting percentage (.326) and blocks (78).

-Series: This is the first meeting between the two teams.

 

BREAKING DOWN THE OPPONENT - GEORGIA

-The Bulldogs were tabbed to finish fourth in the SEC Eastern Division after finishing 2012 with a 14-19 (8-12 SEC) record.

-Brittany Northcutt is the top offensive returner for Georgia after finishing second on the team in 2012 with 270 kills and 2.81 kills per set.

-Georgia also returns both setters, Kaylee Kehoe and Maggie Baumert, who split time in a 6-2 last fall.

-The Bulldogs also have their defensive leader back, as libero Allison Summers will roam the back court after recording 539 digs and 4.81 digs per set in 2012.

-Series: This is the first meeting between the two teams.

 

BREAKING DOWN THE OPPONENT - LIPSCOMB

-The Bison are led by Atlantic Sun Preseason All-Conference Team selections Caitlin Dotson, Jewell Dobson and Lauren Ford.

-Dotson led the conference and was ranked among the top 15 in the NCAA with 11.67 assists last season and finished with 1,214 assists.

-Dobson led the team with a .334 hitting percentage and 57 total blocks and finished third on the team with 345 kills.

-Ford was second on the team with 389 kills and 3.74 kills per set, which was good for third in the A-Sun.

-Series: TCU leads the series 1-0 after defeating the Bison 3-0 (25-13, 28-26, 25-22) at the Wildcat Classic in Tuscon, Ariz., on Aug. 7, 2012.
