McGuire Picks Up Big 12 Weekly Honor

Sept. 7, 2015

FORT WORTH, Texas -- For the second straight week, junior Regan McGuire has earned a weekly conference honor after being named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.

"Regan has been relentless in making positive changes to her game the past few months, along with the rest of her teammates," Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer said. "She's been disciplined in practice and has a good understanding of what we are working to execute both offensively and defensively. It's always nice to see our players hard work recognized."

The Flower Mound, Texas native continued her superb blocking game in the second weekend of action by leading TCU and the Big 12 with 2.00 blocks per set. After two weeks of matches, McGuire leads the league with an average of 1.83 blocks per set that has helped put TCU at the top of the standings with 3.17 blocks per set.

The 6-foot-2 middle blocker finished the SDSU/USD Invitational with a team-best 18 blocks, including eight against No. 23 San Diego. Her eight total blocks against the Toreros led the league this week in three-set matches. McGuire also finished the weekend with 20 kills, a .295 hitting clip and 29 total points.

The Horned Frogs will hit the road for the second straight season, as the team travels to New Orleans, La., for the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Classic on Sept. 11-12. TCU will open against Incarnate Word on Friday, before taking on Nicholls State and tournament host Tulane on Saturday.
