VILLANOVA, Penn. - The TCU volleyball team dug deep to scratch out a 3-2 (25-12, 28-30, 25-9, 26-28, 15-5) victory over Loyola in the opening match of the Villanova Classic. Sloane Sunstrum keyed the win with a career-high 22 kills.

Three other Horned Frogs tallied double digits in kills as Kristen Hester and Jordan Raines each finished with 11 and Yvonne Igodan smacked down 10. Sunstrum completed her second career double-double with 12 digs and also served up two aces. Sarah Joeckel led the Frogs with 17 digs. Raines tallied a double-double with 12 digs and Meghan Horio posted 11 digs in the win.

11 of Sunstrum's kills came in the first set as she dominated the outside. With the Frogs holding a slim 4-3 lead, Sunstrum put the ball back in the Frogs' hands and spurred a 9-0 run. She slammed down four kills in the run and was helped along by three Greyhound errors.

With an 18-8 lead, Sunstrum continued to pound the ball as the Frogs pushed the lead to 24-9. She drilled three more kills in the final run and finished off the 25-12 victory with her 11th kill of the set.

Loyola came roaring back in the second set as it took the early 13-11 lead. TCU rallied to tie the set on a kill by Maddy Brown and eventually took a 16-13 lead on a blast by Mattie Burleson, prompting a Greyhound timeout.

The break worked as they went on a 6-1 run to get back in the set. A back-and-forth battle ensued as Loyola staved off three set points and the Frogs fought off two. The Greyhounds eventually took a 30-28 set two win to even the match at one.

It was all TCU in the third set as it claimed the 2-1 match lead with a dominating 25-9 victory. Hester and Igodan made their presence felt at the net with three kills and a block that helped TCU earn an early 9-3 lead.

A devastating 7-0 run put the Frogs in full control as Sunstrum capped the run with her second ace of the match to give TCU a 16-4 lead. Four straight Greyhound errors locked up the win for the Frogs.

The fourth set played out similarly to the second as the Greyhounds found their offensive groove. TCU battled to get a 20-17 lead on a kill by Raines, but Loyola was able to keep the set close following a timeout.

Loyola eventually took a 24-23 lead with a 7-3 run, but the Frogs were able to fight off that set point and got one of their own on an ace from Munce. It was not to be as Loyola forced a fifth set with a 3-0 run that gave it a 28-26 victory.

It was all TCU in the fifth set as it pushed to an early 5-2 lead on a solo block by Igodan and two kills from Sunstrum. TCU continued to build its lead as Hester found her groove on the right side with a pair of kills. An attacking error forced the Greyhounds to call a timeout trailing 10-4.

TCU closed out the victory with a 5-1 run that was keyed by Sunstrum's 22nd kill of the match. A blast in the middle from Hester locked up the 15-5 set five victory.

The Frogs improve to 7-0 on the season with the victory. TCU continues play in the Villanova Classic Saturday morning against Colgate. First serve is set for 10 a.m. (CST).
