TCU MATCH NOTES

FORT WORTH - TCU's women's volleyball team takes a nine-match winning streak into its final tournament of the season this weekend, hosting the TCU Molten Invitational at the University Rec Center.

The Horned Frogs (9-1) have dropped just three sets since falling in their season opener to Northern Colorado. TCU faces No. 3-ranked USC on Friday at 7 p.m., before closing its tournament schedule with matches against Prairie View A&M and Lehigh on Saturday.

TCU's nine-match winning streak is tied for the second-longest streak in school history. In 2008 and 2003, the Frogs also posted nine wins in a row. All three times, it has led the second-best start in program history at 9-1.

Junior Yvonne Igodan has carried the load for the Frogs offensively, posting 4.09 kills per set and hitting at a robust .419 attack percentage. Both of those numbers are second in the Big 12. Senior Megan Munce leads the league with 0.59 aces per set.

TCU ALL-TIME VERSUS WEEKEND FOES
Of USC, Prairie View A&M and Lehigh, TCU has faced only PVAMU in its history. Friday's meeting between TCU and USC, as well as Saturday evening's meeting with Lehigh will be the first all-time between the two schools.

*TCU is 4-0 all-time against Prairie View A&M dating back to 2003, with all four matches being 3-0 Horned Frog wins.
*The schools met in three-straight years from 2003 to 2005, but have not faced each other since 2008. That was a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-19) TCU win in Edinburg, Texas.

A VISIT FROM NO. 3
When third-ranked USC comes to the University Rec Center on Friday, it will represent one of the highest-ranked teams to ever play in the URC.

*At No. 3, USC is the highest-ranked opponent since 2000 to come to the URC when No. 2 Hawaii came to Fort Worth.
*Three top-five ranked teams have played inside the URC, including No. 3 Hawaii in 1999, No. 2 Hawaii in 2000 and No. 5 Minnesota in 2005.
*TCU is 0-7 all-time against top-five ranked opponents with the last meting being a 3-0 loss at Texas on Aug. 27, 2010.
*Against ranked opponents all-time, TCU is 5-31, including a 3-2 win over No. 23 Colorado State a year ago.

NOT LIVING AND DYING BY THE KILL
In somewhat of a statistical anomaly, TCU holds a 4-0 mark this season when having fewer kills than its opponent. In fact, in TCU's only loss this season, it had more kills (51) than Northern Colorado (49).

*Under Prentice Lewis, TCU is just 35-112 when having fewer kills than its opponent.
*By contrast, the Frogs are 169-14 under Lewis when having more kills than their opponent.
*Despite the kill numbers not necessarily going TCU's way, the Frogs have held the advantage in attack percentage in every match this season.

IT'S TOURNEY TIME, ONE MORE TIME
With three tournaments already down, TCU is playing its final early-season tournament of the year. It has already claimed tournament titles at the TCU Nike Invitational and Arizona Invitational.

*Over the past eight seasons, the Horned Frogs have posted a 75-12 record in early-season tournament action.
*With eight-straight tournament wins, the Frogs are 8-1 this season in tournament play, including 3-0 marks at the TCU Nike Invitational and Arizona Invitational for tournament titles.
*Only once in the past eight seasons has TCU gone to a tournament and left with more losses than wins. The Frogs went 1-2 at the TCU Nike Invitational in 2010.

THROUGH THE QUADS AND TO THE GYMNASIUM
TCU's nine-match winning streak is tied for the second-longest in program history. It has also equated into a tie for the second-best start in school history at 9-1.

*A 13-0 start to last season is the longest winning streak all-time.
*In 2008 and 2003, TCU posted nine-match winning streaks and started the year 9-1 both times, the second-best start in TCU history.
*TCU has tallied five eight-match winning streaks all-time (2005, 2007, twice in 2009 and 2011).

MUNCE CLOSING IN ON CAREER RECORD
Megan Munce leads the Big 12 with 0.59 aces per set and enters the weekend just five aces away from becoming TCU's all-time leader in the category. Currently she sits in second with 158 career aces.

*Her third of four aces against Alabama A&M moved her into second all-time at TCU. Nirelle Hampton is the career leader with 162 service aces.
*Munce recorded an ace on her first serve of the 2012 season against Northern Colorado.
*In seven of 10 matches this season, Munce has posted multiple aces, including four against Alabama A&M and SMU.
*As a team, TCU leads the Big 12 at 1.74 aces per set.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMS AND MVPS ABOUND
Yvonne Igodan earned her second-straight tournament most valuable player honor over the past weekend at the Arizona Invitational.

*Igodan averaged 4.00 kills per set at the Arizona Invitational and also led the Frogs with 16 blocks.
*She was joined on the Arizona Invitational All-Tournament Team by Megan Munce and Sloane Sunstrum.
*Igodan was also the MVP of the TCU Nike Invitational, while Munce and Mattie Burleson earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.
*Munce and Igodan also were selected to the Belmont Invitational All-Tournament Team, the only Frogs to earn selection in all three tournaments this season.
*On Sept. 4, Igodan became the first TCU athlete across any sport to earn a Big 12 weekly honor.

TCU FOR THE BLOCK
Through 10 matches this season, middle blocker Mattie Burleson and Yvonne Igodan have established themselves as one of the top blocking duos in the Big 12.

*Igodan leads the team with 1.21 blocks per set and is tied for 7th in the conference.
*Burleson averages 1.15 blocks per set and is ranked 10th in the Big 12.
*TCU is one of just two school (Kansas) to have two players ranked among the league's top 10 in blocks.
