Three-Straight Honors for McGuire

Sept. 14, 2015

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU volleyball player Regan McGuire set program history on Monday as she was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, marking the third straight weekly award for the junior.

The Flower Mound, Texas native becomes the first player in TCU history to win three weekly honors and the fifth student-athlete in Big 12 history to be honored for three straight weeks. McGuire joins the ranks of former players Michelle Kocher (Texas, 2008), Haley Eckerman (Texas, 2011), Kristen Hahn (Iowa State, 2012) and Sallie McLaurin (Oklahoma, 2013) to accomplish the feat.

“Regan's consistency day-in and day-out in practice has paid off for her and her teammates come game day,” Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer said. “Her numbers reflect her hard work, commitment and dedication to continuing to learn and improve within our system daily.”

McGuire continued to not let anything past her at the net in the third week of action by leading TCU and the Big 12 with 2.00 blocks per set. This marked the third straight weekend McGuire has led the conference in blocks per set and the second straight weekend she has posted 2.00 blocks per set

For the third consecutive weekend, McGuire led the league with an average of 1.89 blocks per set and has helped keep TCU at the top of the standings with 3.06 blocks per set. The junior finished the weekend with a team- and league-best 18 blocks, including a conference-high 10 against Nicholls State. McGuire was the only player in the conference to record double-digit blocks on the weekend

For her efforts, McGuire was named to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Classic All-Tournament team after totaling 19 kills, 2.11 kills per set and a .368 hitting clip. Currently, McGuire is ranked No. 2 nationally in blocks per set and has helped the team to a top-10 ranking in the same category.

TCU will wrap-up non-conference action by hitting the road for the third straight weekend, as the team heads to Dallas for the SMU Doubletree Invitational from Sept. 18-19. Besides playing tournament host SMU, the Frogs will also face UTSA and Clemson.
