FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU women's volleyball student-athlete Mattie Burleson has been named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after her performance in the opening week of league action, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Burleson, a senior from Edmond, Okla., did not let anything past her at the net this past week and finished with a league-best 15 total blocks and 1.88 blocks per set. Burleson shut Iowa State down at the net on Saturday and tied her career-high with 10 total blocks, while also leading all players with five blocks against Texas Tech on Wednesday.

The 10 blocks by Burleson ties for No. 6 all-time in program history and is ranked No. 1 in four-set conference matches. The middle blocker was crucial in the Horned Frogs 3-1 victory on Saturday and finished off the four-set upset victory with two straight blocks to win the match over Iowa State for the first time in program history. She also notched nine kills for the week, 18.0 points and five digs.

Burleson and the rest of the Horned Frogs will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 1, as TCU heads to Norman, Okla., to take on Oklahoma at 7 p.m., at McCasland Field House. The match will air live on FOX Sports Southwest with Laura Alford and Chad McKee on the call.
