TCU Game Notes // Kansas State Game Notes
FORT WORTH, Texas - Coming off their first Big 12 win this season, the TCU volleyball team will head to Manhattan, Kan., to take on Kansas State on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m., inside the Ahearn Fieldhouse, with the match set to air live on FOX College Sports Central and K-STATEHD.TV.
This will be only the third meeting between the Horned Frogs (12-5, 1-2 Big 12) and the Wildcats (12-3, 0-2 Big 12), as Kansas State won both meetings last fall in conference play.
TCU has momentum going into the matchup with the Wildcats after the Frogs took a 3-1 decision over the visiting West Virginia Mountaineers on Wednesday. Yvonne Igodan led the team in kills for the ninth time this season after posting a match-high 19 to go along with a .455 hitting percentage and two solo blocks. Igodan leads the team in all matches with 172 kills and is No. 2 in the Big 12 with a .363 hitting percentage.
Freshmen Natalie Gower and Shane Peters had career nights against WVU with Gower notching her first double-digit kill performance this season with 10 kills and only one error for a .529 hitting percentage and Peters recording a career-high 18 digs.
Kansas State is looking for its first conference win of the season after dropping their first two matches to West Virginia (3-1) and in-state rival Kansas (3-0). In the match against the Jayhawks, two-time AVCA All-America Honorable Mention Kaitlynn Pelger led the Wildcats with 11 kills, while Courtney Traxson chipped in 10 kills.
Pelger takes the offensive lead for Kansas State with 158 kills and 2.77 kills per set, but Preseason Big 12 Freshman of the Year Katie Brand is the one dishing out the assists as she is averaging 9.81 assists per set. Pelger and Brand both rank in the top 10 in service aces for the Big 12 with Pelger sitting at No. 4 (0.39) and Brand coming in at No. 8 (0.30).
TCU QUICK HITS
-The Horned Frogs are 12-5 on the season and 1-2 in Big 12 Conference play after grabbing their first conference win of the season against West Virginia.
-TCU was on an eight-match winning streak before opening conference play and won two preseason non-conference tournament titles this fall.
-Freshman Ashley Smith was leading the Frogs in kills, before suffering an injury before the Texas match. Smith saw limited action in the matches against Kansas and West Virginia and has 141 kills on the season.
-Preseason All-Big 12 selection Yvonne Igodan leads TCU with 172 kills and 2.97 kills per set and sits at No. 2 in the Big 12 with a .363 hitting percentage.
-Alexia Heist and Trisha Langely are guiding the TCU offense with 354 and 258 assists, respectively, while Langley leads the team with 15 service aces.
-Shane Peters is roaming the back court as libero and leads the team with 189 digs and 3.20 digs per set, which is good for No. 10 in the Big 12.
BREAKING DOWN THE OPPONENT - KANSAS STATE
-Kansas State (12-3, 0-2 Big 12) is looking for its first conference win of the season after dropping matches to West Virginia and Kansas.
-On Wednesday, the Wildcats were swept by in-state rival Kansas with Kaitlynn Pelger and Courtney Traxson leading the team with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
-Pelger, a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Big 12 team and two-time AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, leads the team with 158 kills and 2.77 kills per set.
-Pelger is ranked No. 7 in the Big 12 in points per set (3.68) and No. 4 in service aces (0.39).
-Preseason Big 12 Freshman of the Year Katie Brand guides the Kansas State offense with 9.81 assists per set, which is good for No. 6 in the Big 12, while also being a threat behind the service line with 0.30 service aces per set.
-Taylor Johnson sits at No. 2 in the Big 12 in blocks with 1.37 per set, while the Wildcats as a team lead the Big 12 in blocks with 2.81 per set.
-Series: Kansas State holds a 2-0 advantage over the Frogs in the series with the only two meetings coming last fall in conference play.

-TCU is making appearances on the FOX Broadcasting channel six times this season and other stations a total of 10 times.
-The Frogs won their first television match of the season and home opener against North Texas on Sept. 11, 3-0 and defeated Stephen F. Austin 3-1 in the team's second TV match.
-Big 12 matches against Texas (Sept. 25), West Virginia (Oct. 2), at Baylor (Oct. 16) and Oklahoma (Oct. 23) will also get the television coverage on FSSW+ and FOX Sports Southwest.
