FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU volleyball player Natalie Gower has been named Big 12 Rookie of the Week for her efforts in the Horned Frogs 3-0 win over Baylor last Wednesday night.
For the week, the St. Louis, Mo native was the only player ranked in the top 10 in the conference statistics in five categories (hitting percentage, blocks, points, kills and service aces). The freshman middle blocker led the league for the week in points per set (5.83) and service aces per set (1.33), while ranking third with 1.67 blocks per set. In their only Big 12 match for the week against the Bears, Gower led the Horned Frogs for the second match in a row with double digit kills (10), while also posting a career-high four service aces. In Big 12-only matches, Gower is seventh in hitting percentage and eighth in service aces and blocks.
This is the first Big 12 weekly award for the Frogs, after senior Yvonne Igodan was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 team.
TCU has two conference matches this week, as the Frogs host Oklahoma on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m., with the match to air live on FSSW+ in the DFW area, FS Oklahoma and FCS Central nationally. TCU will then travel to Ames, Iowa to take on Iowa State on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 5 p.m.
