Nov. 2, 2015

FORT WORTH, Texas – After helping lead the TCU volleyball team to its biggest win in program history, freshman Ashleigh Martin garnered her second Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors this season as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

“Along with the rest of our team, Ashleigh had a great week in the gym,” Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer said. “She made a big impact for us both offensively and defensively this past week and her consistency has been huge for us.”

In the two matches last week, Martin scored a team-best 21 kills and 3.00 kills per set to help lead TCU to its biggest victory in program history with a sweep of then-No. 2 Texas last Wednesday. Martin started the week by scoring seven kills, a .357 hitting percentage and four blocks in the upset of the Longhorns.

The McKinney, Texas native recorded her third double-digit kill performance of the season, as she led the team with season- and career-high 14 kills against Kansas State on Saturday. For the week, Martin’s overall .326 hitting percentage ranked second on the team, while her 3.50 points per set was tied for No. 10 in the conference and her 3.00 kills per set was tied for No. 9 in league action for the week.

TCU will take Wednesday off, before welcoming Iowa State on Saturday, Nov. 7 for a Noon showdown that will air live on FOX Sports Southwest Plus inside the University Recreation Center.
