Volleyball Academic All-Big 12 Announced

FORT WORTH, Texas – Six members of the TCU volleyball team were a part of the 60 student-athletes named to the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 Volleyball Team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. Natalie Gower and Ashley Smith were named to the first team for the third straight season in their careers, while Chyna Perkins and Ashleigh Martin earned first team distinction for the first time in their careers. Jillian Bergeson and Kaylee Smith rounded out the honorees by claiming spots on the second team.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

TCU has only three matches remaining in the regular season, as they welcome Baylor on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m., and West Virginia on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. The Frogs have one remaining road match at Texas Tech on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.
