Smith Named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU volleyball sophomore Ashley Smith was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Smith led the Horned Frogs from start to finish with 333 kills on the season and 2.92 kills per set. In conference action, Smith was able to strike down 186 kills and 3.00 kills per set, while also picking up 157 digs and serving up a team-high 17 service aces.

The outside hitter led TCU in kills in 17 matches in 2014 and also recorded a team-high 11 double-doubles, which was good for fourth in the conference. Smith set numerous career-highs in 2014 including 20 kills in the upset victory over then-No. 24 Oklahoma on Nov. 5. Smith also tied her career-high in digs when the sophomore picked up 19 in the five-set match at Iowa State on Nov. 15. During the season, Smith was able to record double-digit kills on 17 occasions and dug up double-digit digs in 13 matches.

Smith was named to three all-tournament teams in 2014 and garnered MVP honors of the TCU Molten Invitational. The League City, Texas native finished No. 9 in kills per set (3.00) and points per set (3.51) in conference matches, while also ranking No. 7 in service aces per set (0.27).

TCU concluded the 2014 season on Saturday by finishing with a 17-15 overall record and also picking up a program-best six wins in Big 12 action.
