Smith Named Big 12 Rookie of the Week

FORT WORTH, Texas – After the final week of regular-season play, freshman Ashley Smith has been named Big 12 Co-Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
The League City, Texas native, who led the team in their final two matches against Kansas State and Texas Tech, shares the weekly honor with West Virginia freshman Jordan Anderson.
Smith led the Horned Frogs in their final two matches of the season and had a combined 21 kills and 18 digs last week. The freshman outside hitter, led TCU to its first win in program history over Kansas State Wednesday night with nine kills and a .261 hitting percentage. On Saturday at Texas Tech, she notched her second double-double of the season and 13th career double-digit kill match with 12 kills and 11 digs. Overall, she ranked in the top 10 in kills (5th, 3.50) and points (10th, 3.83) in the Big 12 for the week.
TCU concluded the 2013 season on Saturday and finished with a winning record for the ninth time under coach Prentice Lewis.
