Walsh Earns AVCA All-Region Accolades
Dec. 5, 2017
FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU volleyball junior Anna Walsh added to her postseason honors on Tuesday morning with the Grapevine, Texas native being named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Southwest Region team.
Walsh, who was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team, garners an AVCA All-Region postseason honor for the second time in her career after being named AVCA All-East Coast Region Freshman of the Year in 2015. Walsh becomes the 10th player in program history to be honored with an AVCA All-Region award and the fourth under Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer while at TCU. Players and coaches honored by the AVCA today will be eligible for a spot on the All-America team, which will be revealed on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
“Anna’s performance this season speaks for itself,” Kramer said. “She has established herself as one of the premier middles in the Big 12 Conference as the highest point scorer in conference play among all Big 12 middle blockers, while still sitting in the top 10 in hitting percentage.
“Leadership does not directly factor into this accolade, but the growth Anna has made this season in her leadership role has been the most impressive part of her game this year, in my opinion. She is a relentless competitor and a giver and instills confidence in her teammates and puts their needs first. It’s nice to see her rewarded for her and the teams efforts.”
Walsh has led TCU all season long offensively and defensively with 305 kills, 2.96 kills per set and a .314 hitting clip. The junior has also posted a team-best 110 total blocks and 1.07 blocks per set overall this season. In conference action this season, Walsh was putting down a team-best 3.02 kills per set and posting 1.13 blocks per set. Walsh became the eighth player in program history to score a double-double with double-digit kills and double-digit blocks in the victory over Kansas State. Prior to the start of the 2017 season, Walsh was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team.
TCU remains alive in postseason action and will host the third and fourth rounds of the NIVC starting on Wednesday, Dec. 6 inside The Rickel at the University Recreation Center. The Frogs will welcome UC Irvine and Texas Tech for a match at 4 p.m., before taking on Green Bay at 7 p.m. The winners of the two matches will play in the semifinals on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.
