In her second race of the season, Brenley Goertzen finished 20th overall, keeping pace with several 2016 All-Americans. Goertzen finished in 16:48.9, over 15 seconds faster than her previous personal best in the 5,000-meters (17:05.9).

Freshman Evelyn Mandel was the next Horned Frog to finish and recorded a mark of 18:05.8.

“We needed to see this level of competition, but we are capable of more. We are solid enough to be top 16-17, but today was a learning experience. Bren will get continue to get better as she races more and get ready for postseason in a month.”

Women’s cross country returns to action at NCAA Pre-Nationals in Louisville, Ky., scheduled for Oct. 14. The men’s next meet is the Incarnate Word Invitational, scheduled for Oct. 7.
