Aug. 31, 2017

FORT WORTH – The TCU men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in the first meet of the season on Friday, September 1 at the Bear Twilight Invitational.

The Horned Frogs will compete against Baylor, North Texas, SMU (women only), Texas State, and Abilene Christian University. The women’s 4K race is set to begin at 7 p.m. with the men’s 6K to follow.

TCU returns 11 from last year’s women’s roster, including the team’s top three runners from the Big 12 Championships: Brenley Goertzen, Nicole Hicks, and Kirsten Johnson. Newcomer Evelyn Mandel is the lone freshman on this year’s squad and will make her debut for the Horned Frogs.

The men’s roster returns six athletes from last year, including two of the team’s top three runners from the Big 12 Championships: Matthew Brown and Henry Butz. Freshman Kelby Caplinger and Dallas Baptist University transfer Brendon Hicks are the two newcomers for the men and will make their first appearances as Horned Frogs.

This will be the sixth consecutive year TCU opens the season at the Bear Twilight Invitational. The top returners from last year’s meet are seniors Nicole Hicks and Brown. Hicks finished 17th in the women’s 4K with a mark of 14:40.3, while Brown finished 23rd in the men’s 4K with a time of 12:51.8.
