Exhibition begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday
FORT WORTH – TCU will open the season with an exhibition game at Tarleton State on Sunday at 3 p.m., which will air on ESPN+.
NOTES
- The game in Stephenville, Texas will be the first played at Tarleton's new EECU Center. The $130 million facility seats 8,000 for basketball games.
- TCU is 2-0 in exhibition games under Jamie Dixon. The Frogs defeated Arkansas, 66-65, on Nov. 1 last season in Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. The previous season, TCU beat Texas Wesleyan, 98-61, on Oct. 30 in Fort Worth.
- TCU lost 73.1 percent of its scoring and 68.6 percent of its rebounding among eight players last season.
- TCU returns nine players and welcome seven newcomers as well as two others who redshirted last season.
- TCU returns six "scholarship" players from last season, the second most in the Big 12 only to Houston's nine.
- Of TCU's returning players, four averaged over 10 minutes per game last season with David Punch (20.4), Micah Robinson (14.1), Jace Posey (12.8) and Malick Diallo (10.9).
- TCU's schedule consists of five teams currently in the Preseason AP Top 10 and eight in the Top 25.
- Punch is the team's leading returning scorer and rebounder at 6.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
- Providence transfer Jayden Pierre and Trey Stuart are the only players with no more eligibility remaining after this season.
- Iowa transfer Brock Harding ranked fourth in the Big Ten with 5.3 assists last season.
- Liutauras Lelevicius averaged 8.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in 24 games for Oregon State last season.
- Harding (Illinois) and Tanner Toolson (Washington) were named Mr. Basketball in their state in high school.
- Toolson led Utah Valley to a Western Athletic Conference regular season championship last season. He scored a career-high 28 points in the WAC championship game against Grand Canyon.
- Toolson went 3-1 against Tarleton in his two-year career at UVU, including 2-0 in Stephenville.
- FIU transfer Vianney Salatchoum was on the Conference USA All-Defensive Team last season.
- When RJ Jones plays in TCU's first regular season game on Nov. 3, it will have been 595 days since his last game played on March 19, 2024 as a Kansas State Wildcat at Iowa when Harding was a freshman there.
- Jones redshirted last season at TCU, along with Beaumont, Texas native Ashton Simmons.
- On the roster are four of TCU's top nine recruits since 247Sports began tracking in 2000. Freshman and Fort Worth native Kayden Edwards is the third-best recruit TCU has had. Robinson is No. 4, Posey is No. 7 and Punch is No. 9.
- The only freshman on the team, Edwards led Duncanville High School to a Class 6A State Championship last season and was named tournament MVP.
- For the second-straight year, TCU was picked 10th in the Big 12 Preseason Poll, voted on by the league's coaches.
- It is Jamie Dixon's 10th season with the Horned Frogs. His 504 career wins ranks 21st among active coaches.
- Dixon was inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame in August.
- Dixon is one of just 11 active head coaches who have made at least 15 appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
- Dixon has had the same five assistant coaches for five years. In the Big 12, only Houston has more continuity.
SERIES HISTORY
- TCU is 1-1 all-time against Tarleton State in regular season games. Both games came in Fort Worth.
- The last meeting was a 68-59 win by the Texans on Nov. 19, 2005.
LAST TIME OUT
- TCU finished the 2024-25 season 16-16 overall and 9-11 in Big 12 Conference play. It was the third-straight season and fourth season overall that the Horned Frogs won a program-best nine Big 12 games.
