TCU earns third top-15 victory of season
FORT WORTH – In a showdown between two rival teams, the 14th-ranked TCU women's soccer team dominated No. 10 Baylor, 3-0, on Thursday night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
THE RUNDOWN
The Horned Frogs (11-2-1, 5-1-1 Big 12) saw even action with the Bears during the opening moments of tonight's contest. Through the first 21 minutes, neither team recorded a shot and the momentum was split between the two sides. However, the floodgates would burt open just mere moments later. In the 23rd minute, Katana Norman would feed a ball to Emma Yolinsky who lobbed a ball into Seven Castain. The senior was somehow able to get a foot on the ball even with a Baylor defender draped over her and put it in the back of the net to give the Frogs a 1-0 advantage nearly midway through the first half.
Lightning would end up striking twice, as in the 27th minute Cameron Patton would send in a beautiful through ball to Castain who was able to sneak the ball past the Bears' keeper and doubles TCU's advantage to 2-0. To close out the first half, the Frogs would not let Baylor gain any true momentum, allowing only four shots with none of them being on goal. As the first 45 minutes concluded, TCU held a 10-4 shot advantage and had all the momentum heading back into the locker room.
Once the teams resumed play in the second frame, the match was all Frogs. TCU put up 15 shots in the second half alone compared to Baylor's four, and the Frogs would ultimately end the contest with 25 total shots and 14 of those coming on goal. In the 54th minute, Castain would push a through ball to Morgan Brown who would send in a low-driven ball into the box where it would eventually find Cate Sarinopoulos who would put it away for her first career goal.
Following the redshirt freshman's goal, the ensuing minutes saw more ball control and domination from TCU. The Frogs came close to tacking on to their advantage on numerous occasions, but ultimately when time ran out TCU still held a 3-0 ledger.
Geller played all 90 minutes in goal, posting one save throughout the contest and putting on an excellent display of ball distribution.
QUOTE OF THE GAME
Overall thoughts…
"Hats off to Ryan (Higginbotham) and Tom (Serratore) coming up with the scheme to get us to where we are. They came out with a great game plan from attacking, defending, set pieces and other things. The kids executed it really well. At the beginning of the game, it was kind of like a chess match where nobody was getting in a shot and wondering when the breakthrough moment was going to happen. They were able to get behind them a couple of times and finish on a couple of opportunities, and that kind of opened up the game for us."
