AUSTIN – Playing in a hostile environment on the road, No. 9 TCU volleyball fell to No. 2 Texas in straight sets on Wednesday night inside Gregory Gym.
The Horned Frogs (7-2, 0-0 Big 12) didn't have enough to slow down the Longhorns (7-0, 0-0 SEC) on their home court. Texas outhit TCU .415 to .163. Sophomore Evan Hendrix led the Frogs with 10 kills, and Sarah Sylvester recorded six blocks.
Texas scored the first six points of the opening set, putting TCU in an early hole. The Frogs tried to dig their way out but couldn't quite find their footing as the Longhorns took the first set 25-12.
TCU kept things closer through the first 15 points of the second set. Both teams went back and forth until a 6-0 run gave Texas a 16-12 edge. Hendrix and Alexis Roberson helped cut the UT lead to two, but the Longhorns pressed on to a 25-17 set victory.
With their backs against the wall, the Frogs once again battled to keep the score close in set three. TCU took an early 5-3 lead before Texas answered with a 6-0 run. Trailing by four, the Frogs fought their way back to tie the set at 11 and again at 14. Using the momentum from their home crowd, the Longhorns rattled off another late 4-0 run, which proved to be the difference as they won the set 25-18 and the match in three sets.
The Frogs round out their non-conference slate in Houston at the Rice Invitational on Sept. 19-20.
