ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 10 TCU scored three runs in the top of the eighth to rally for a 5-4 win over No. 23 Vanderbilt Friday afternoon at Globe Life Field. Lucas Franco and Sawyer Strosnider homered for the Horned Frogs.
The Rundown
After Vanderbilt took a 3-2 lead in the seventh, TCU wasted little time responding. Lucas Franco smoked a one-out triple and scored on a Cole Cramer double to tie the game at three. An intentional walk to Sawyer Strosnider followed by ,a wild pitch had the go-ahead runs in scoring position. A costly mistake by the Vanderbilt catcher on an errant throw on a dropped third strike allowed Cramer and Strosnider to score, giving TCU a 5-3 lead.
Vanderbilt pulled within one on a one-out home run in the ninth, but Walter Quinn came on and shut the door to lock up the TCU win for his first save of the season. He allowed a hit and struck out a batter in his 2/3 of an inning.
TCU opened the scoring in the first inning on a one-out home run off the bat of Strosnider. Vanderbilt answered with a solo home run in the third to tie the game at one.
A lead-off home run from Vanderbilt in the fifth gave the Commodores their first lead of the game. TCU had an answer in the sixth as Lucas Franco launched a home run to right to tie the game at two, setting up the thrilling finish.
Tommy LaPour started for the Horned Frogs and went five innings in the no-decision. He allowed two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out five. Tanner Sagouspe (1-0) picked up the win. He allowed a run on two hits and struck out four over two innings. Nate Stern went 1 1/3 innings, allowing a run on one hit, walking one and striking out four.
