Meet came down to final ride
FRESNO, Calif. – Fifth-ranked TCU Equestrian dropped its second meet of the week on Friday, falling to No. 8 Fresno State by a score of 10-8 at the Student Horse Center in Fresno.
Jordyn Scelsa needed over a 78 on the Flat in the final ride of the meet, but she scored a 77.5 and the meet went to the Bulldogs.
TCU (2-2, 2-1 Big 12) took a victory in Fences, but did not win any of the remaining three events. Picking up an MOP for the Frogs was Lily Muzzy (Fences), while Fresno State (2-0, 1-0 Big 12) won the remaining three.
The Bulldogs fell behind early to the Horned Frogs after Fences, but battled back to tie it up thanks to Horsemanship. In the second half, FSU took Reining and the two teams split on the Flat to close out the meet.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After dropping the first two points to the Bulldogs, TCU stormed back to take the final three of Fences to earn an early lead. Jackie Stary, Lilly Goldstein and Lily Muzzy were the point scorers for the Frogs.
Horsemanship was back and forth, with Calla Thomas and Peyton Staat each adding to the TCU tally. However, Fresno State would claim three to tie it up at the intermission.
In the first event after the break, Fresno State seized some momentum in Reining, taking three points to TCU's one and getting just two points away from victory. Lannie-Jo Lisac earned the lone victory for the Frogs.
TCU produced a rally on the flat, with Stary and Lex Lipacis taking points to make it come down to the final ride. In the final ride, Jordyn Scelsa fell after scoring a 77.5 to the Fresno State rider's 78, giving the Bulldogs the victory.
