Volleyball opens 2025 against No. 3 Pitt and No. 2 Penn State
PITTSBURGH – TCU volleyball opens its 2025 campaign Labor Day Weekend at the State Farm Volleyball Showcase. The Horned Frogs will take on No. 3 Pitt and No. 2 Penn State on a national TV audience at PPG Paints Arena.
TCU NOTABLES
• TCU begins the season ranked for the first time in program history. The Horned Frogs checked in at No. 25 in the AVCA/TARAFLEX Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• Senior Jalyn Gibson was voted to the Preseason All-Big 12 team by the league's head coaches.
• Heading into the 2025 season, TCU was picked to finish fifth in the Big 12 Conference, receiving one first place vote.
• Sophomore Becca Kelley will play against her sister Bre for the first time in her career when TCU and Pitt face off on Sunday.
• The Frogs open the season with five straight matches against ranked opponents, including three in the top 10. The 2025 slate matches with features 13 NCAA Tournament teams from last season, including five from the Sweet 16.
• TCU returns five starters and 10 letterwinners from a season ago, including its stat leader in blocks (Sarah Sylvester, 146) and digs (Gibson, 330). The Frogs also welcomed eight newcomers (four freshmen and four transfers).
• Four Horned Frogs earned All-Big 12 honors last year, tied for the most in school history. Three of them return for the 2025 season.
• Jason Williams is one of seven active coaches to lead his team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament or beyond in each of their first three seasons at the helm of the program.

• The all-time series between TCU and Pitt is tied 1-1. The two teams haven't met since 2011 when the Frogs pulled out a 3-1 win in San Diego.
• Penn State and TCU have only met once in the history of the two programs. The Nittany Lions won that match in straight sets back in 2014 in State College, Pa.

Ranked No. 3, Pitt opened the 2025 season last weekend, falling to No. 1 Nebraska and No. 16 Florida at the AVCA First Serve Showcase in Lincoln on Friday. The Panthers are led by 2024 National Player of the Year Olivia Babcock, who returns for her junior season in the Blue and Gold. She's also supported by Bre Kelley, a dominant presence at the net, in the middle and an experienced transfer setter in Brooke Mosher.
No. 2 Penn State opened the 2025 season posting a 2-0 mark against nationally ranked opponents with a sweep of No. 12 Creighton and a five-set comeback over No. 14 Kansas. The defending national champions have high expectations this season after returning a core of 2024 National Freshman of the Year Izzy Starck, Caroline Jurevicius, Gillian Grimes and Emmi Sellman. The Nittany Lions also added All-American Kennedy Martin to the mix, who was one of the top attackers in the NCAA last season.
