The Fort Worth Regional features No. 2 seed Oklahoma (16-10), No. 3 seed Illinois (15-11) and No. 4 seed Abilene Christian (13-10). Oklahoma and Illinois, tabbed 24th and 33rd in the final ITA regular season rankings, received at-large berths. ACU won the Western Athletic Conference championship to secure an auto bid.
The Regional begins at 3 p.m. on Friday with an opening round dual between the Sooners and Fighting Illini. The Horned Frogs (22-3, 8-0 Big 12) then battle ACU at 6 p.m. or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first match. The winners square off at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the Regional final.
Friday's tilt between the Horned Frogs and Wildcats marks the fifth meeting in the last four years between the programs. TCU has staged its season-opener vs. ACU for three straight years. The Horned Frogs blanked the Wildcats, 7-0, on Jan. 11 to kick off the 2025 campaign. The friendly familiarity extends to the fall season. TCU and ACU have been two of four participants at the U.S. College Cup Invitational – an event organized by Horned Frogs head coach David Roditi – in Torreon, Mexico, the past two years.
TCU and Oklahoma are no strangers to one another. The programs battled annually during their shared tenure as Big 12 members from 2012-24. The Horned Frogs have claimed 13 of the last 14 head-to-heads between the programs dating back to 2016. TCU bounced the Sooners from the semifinals of the 2024 Big 12 Championship via a 4-1 walloping in their last meeting.
The Horned Frogs hold an 11-5 all-time record and have claimed three straight duals vs the Illini. TCU earned a 4-1 decision over Illinois on March 19, 2023, in Fort Worth in the teams' most recent collision. The lone postseason meeting between the Horned Frogs and Illini took place in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, with Illinois winning 4-0.
